John and I have several times visited Dubai but this was the first time we left the city behind and went properly into the vastness of the desert... A long drive, along a very straight, well maintained highway takes you to the gates of Al Maha - and a step back from stress. We had our own ranger for the duration of our stay and the trip up the HUGE dune (which is actually in Oman) at speed was one of the highlights, stopping exactly on top - with a sheer drop down the other side!
